My cat pulls greenery out of my arrangements. Sometimes she plays with them or chews on them and then will be sick. Why? How do I stop her?
Hello Penny,
Thank you for your question.
Cats are naturally attracted to greenery due to its texture, smell, and taste. Large-leaved indoor houseplants and flowers are particularly interesting to cats as they make great chewing or play objects when bored.
Some cats, like my DSH Simba, enjoy chewing on plants. I suspect this may be due to a missing nutrient or dietary fibre in his diet; he has been diagnosed with IBD.
In my case, I had to remove all plants out of his reach and replace them with only cat grass. I only let him have wheatgrass in moderation since he eats large portions and then vomits.
If you're having trouble keeping your cat away from greenery, I recommend reading this helpful article by Dr. Barker on 10 Proven Ways To Keep Cats Out Of Plants.
I hope this information is helpful to you.
Best regards,
Melina
