I love Farmina cat food, aside from your positive review, I have found good reviews elsewhere. However, I am unable to find proper reviews on their veterinary food. Would it be possible for you to do a review on Farmina Vet Life food? https://www.farmina.com/us/farmina/1155-farmina-vet-life.html Thank you!
Hey Rachel! We're actually going to be publishing an in-depth review of Farmina Vet Life this summer. In the meantime, however, I'm happy to provide some thoughts on the brand.
At first glance, Farmina Vet Life doesn't offer as big a variety as major brands like Royan Canin and Hills but they do have some unique options. The Hydrolyzed Fish dry food, for example, is one of the only hydrolyzed cat food formulas I've seen that uses fish instead of chicken, pork, or another protein as the main source. I also like that the Urinary ST recipe specifically states that it's for treatment of struvite urolithiasis. Urinary crystals and bladder stones are caused by the buildup of different minerals combined with changes in urine pH, etc. It's important to identify the cause of the issue because a diet that's good for calcium oxalate stones, for example, might make struvite stones worse. Some brands just offer general "urinary health" formulas that might not help dissolve stones.
Overall, Farmina Vet Life seems to rely on animal-sourced protein and fat. There's corn gluten meal in most of the recipes but the brand doesn't rely as heavily on peas and legumes as others do. And, in comparison to Royal Canin, at least, they use whole proteins and protein meals instead of by-products.
One thing worth noting is that several of Farmina Vet Life's recipes are intended for short-term therapeutic feeding only (like the Urinary ST and renal). So, I'd say the best use case for some recipes is during treatment/recovery from acute issues. Once your cat is recovered, you may still need to switch to an appropriate long-term diet.
Hope that helps!
