Irecently read your review on reveal cat as well as your review on kidney disease cat. I found bith articles to be very informative. I have one cat with kidney disease and my other cat is currently being tested for the illness. I am looking at alternatives foods in case her rusults come out positive for the disease cause has always been a picky eater. Before her recent vet visit, I have purchased a few cans of the reveal cat food. On Reveal's website it states that their food is safe for cats with kidney disease cause it has limited ingredients and easily digestable, but do not reveal their levels of phosphorus content on their food. I am courios to know your opinion on their assessment on this matter and should Reveal actually state that their food is safe for cats with kidney disease?
Hi Thomas, that's a good question. After browsing Reveal's website, the only references I found to the food being appropriate for cats with kidney disease relate to the digestibility of the product (specifically the protein). I didn't see any mention of lower phosphorus levels.
What's important to note is that Reveal's wet cat food isn't nutritionally complete—it's for supplemental feeding. That probably explains why they don't mention phosphorus content—because the product isn't required to meet any specific nutrient minimums. Even if you do choose to offer your cat Reveal wet food, it should make up no more than 10% of their daily diet. The other 90% should come from a complete and balanced formula.
If you're looking for a low-phosphorus option that's nutritionally complete, maybe look into the Truluxe line of wet food from Weruva. It's not a prescription food so isn't going to be as low in phosphorus as a veterinary formula, but it's lower than the average cat food.
