CatSpot Litter Review

Responsible pet owners are concerned not only about the health and welfare of their pets, but also about the environment. Traditional clay cat litters contain ingredients that can be bad for both.

Many commercially produced clay litters contain high levels of silica dust which can irritated your cat’s respiratory system as well as chemical fragrances that may be toxic to cats. Plus, some of the processes through which the clay is obtained are environmentally destructive. If you’re looking for a healthy, eco-friendly alternative to traditional cat litters, consider CatSpot 100% Coconut Organic Cat Litter.

#1 CatSpot 100% Coconut Organic Cat Litter Formula

Kate Barrington / Cats.com

This CatSpot 100% Coconut Organic Cat Litter is exactly what the name implies – an organic, all-natural cat litter made only from coconut. Because it is all-natural, it is a hypoallergenic formula and the fact that it is made only from coconut makes it super lightweight. This litter absorbs up to 560% of its weight in liquid, with each 5-pound bag absorbing the same amount of liquid as a 20-pound bag of clay litter.

Because it doesn’t clump, it doesn’t contain odors as well as some litters and the lightweight material does tend to track. If you scoop it daily, however, one bag can last up to a month and you can dispose of it easily by dumping it in your yard, garden, or compost bin as a soil additive.

Though we’ve only given this CatSpot 100% Coconut Organic Cat Litter a 2.75/5 rating, it is important to remember that this rating system is largely based on features found in more traditional cat litter products. This is not a clumping litter, nor is it designed specifically for multi-cat households. Where this product shines is in the fact that it is lightweight, all-natural, hypoallergenic, and biodegradable.

Positive Customer Reviews For CatSpot Coconut Cat Litter

“I was previously using Dr. Elsey’s Respiratory Relief litter for my allergic cat… When I found out that some cats can be allergic to clay litter, I decided I needed to try an alternative, but my cats are very picky. They were not fond of pellet-style litter like Yesterday’s News, and I don’t blame them. I wanted a litter with as few components as possible, and when I saw an ad for CatSpot I was intrigued by the fact that there is only one component (coconut). I have now been using it for about four months, and I am very pleased. Here are some of my observations: Small, shaved bits of coconut shell. Very light. Not harsh on a cat’s paws at all. Because it’s so light, it does track easily. The amount tracked doesn’t bother me too much, and most of the tracking is limited to the room where the litter boxes are kept.” – A. Perry, reviewing CatSpot 100% Coconut Organic Cat Litter Formula

Negative Customer Reviews For CatSpot Coconut Cat Litter

“Being a cat owner, I am always on the lookout for the best litter out there according to my two cats. I found CatSpot on the web, read the info, and thought I’d try it. The bag is truly lightweight, weighs next to nothing. The color is brown. I emptied one litter box and poured this in, be careful because it is easy to overfill due to the lightness of the product. It has no odor and I haven’t noticed any dust… I am noticing an odor after a few days with both cats using the same litter box. I last changed the litter a week ago. The suggested schedule is about 15 days. Final decision, not happy with it. What I have noticed is the human might not notice the odor from way up there, but down by kitties nose it stinks – sour smell, I have even added baking soda. I ended up changing out the box once a week and would be too expensive on that replacement schedule for me.” – Piwacket, reviewing CatSpot 100% Coconut Organic Cat Litter Formula

How Much Does CatSpot Coconut Cat Litter Cost?

The price of CatSpot 100% Coconut Organic Cat Litter varies slightly, depending where you purchase it. You can purchase a 5-pound bag for $17.99 on the CatSpot website or pay $14.99 per bag when you subscribe to receive regular deliveries. The price on Amazon is also $17.99 per bag with a 5% or 10% discount when you subscribe – there is also a slight multi-bag discount for purchases of 2 or 3 bags.

Overall, Is CatSpot Coconut Cat Litter A Good Choice?

If you’re making a direct comparison between CatSpot 100% Coconut Organic Cat Litter and traditional clay litter, you’re going to be disappointed. This litter does not clump and, as a result, may not contain odors as well as commercial clay litter. It also tends to track a little bit at first, especially if your cat’s paws are wet when he steps in. You’ll need to stir the litter once a day or so to keep it dry and to help it absorb as much liquid as possible.

Though CatSpot 100% Coconut Organic Cat Litter doesn’t act like clay litter, it has its own set of unique benefits. Not only is it 100% natural and organic, but it is both sustainable and biodegradable. You can dispose of it directly in your yard or garden (after removing solid waste) or use it in your compost bin. It may cost a little more but if you’re looking for an eco-friendly cat litter, this is it.

Keep in mind that this cat litter contains no fragrances, chemicals, or other additives. While this makes it a healthy and hypoallergenic choice, it does limit the product’s ability to contain odor – particularly in multi-cat households. We didn’t find this to be a significant problem with daily scooping, but it is something be aware of when purchasing this product.

Where Is CatSpot Coconut Cat Litter Sold?

CatSpot 100% Coconut Organic Cat Litter is sold online through the company’s website and on Amazon. You may be able to find it in local or regional specialty pet stores, but the easiest way to purchase it at this time is directly through the company’s website or on Amazon.
