About Churu

Inaba has a long history in the food business, dating back more than a century. Inaba emphasizes their family tradition in the food business, dating back to 1805 in Japan. They initially specialized in harvesting seafood then became involved in the pet food business in 1958. In 1989, the Churu brand was launched.

Inaba was an early innovator in canning production, freezing, and working with skipjacks and yellowfin. They are still at the forefront of the market in canned tuna today.

According to Inaba, they were one of the earliest companies making wet cat foods. Along with cat foods and cat treats, Inaba also makes dog foods.

Today the company’s pet food is sold around the world. Their web site is available in 13 different languages.

Sourcing and Manufacturing

Inaba products are made in the company’s own state-of-the-art, FDA-registered facilities. They follow the same quality assurance procedures as a U.S. human food plant.

All of Inaba’s foods are 100 percent human grade. They use no by-products, no artificial preservatives, and no artificial colors.

Inaba’s chicken breast fillets are from cage-free chickens raised on family farms close to the company’s facilities in Thailand. Their pure, whole muscle skipjack tuna is responsibly harvested in western  Pacific waters. All the other natural ingredients in their fillet broths and Churu Purées are sourced in Thailand. Every ingredient used by Inaba is human grade.

Each batch of wild-caught tuna arrives at the processing facility with a certificate of origin specifying where and how it was harvested. Inaba only works with fisheries that employ dolphin-friendly fishing techniques, in accordance with the best practices of environmental responsibility and sustainability.

All Churu products packaged for sale in North America are produced in Saraburi, Thailand at the company’s wholly-owned and operated, state-of-the-art plant.

Inaba has a factory that opened in China in 2004. They also have a headquarters in the United States.

Inaba’s packaging materials have special oxygen-blocking properties to protect the food and your cat’s health.

Have Churu Cat Treats Been Recalled?

We didn’t find any recalls for Churu products in the United States in either the AVMA or U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) databases. It’s harder to be certain whether there have ever been any recalls in other countries. We didn’t find anything online to suggest that there had been.

What Kind of Cat Treats Does Churu Offer?

Inaba makes some 300 products for cats and dogs. Their treats are low-calorie, grain-free, and contain plenty of moisture. Inaba doesn’t use artificial preservatives or artificial colors.

Along with treats, Inaba also makes broths, stews, and a variety of wet cat foods.

We found thousands of customer reviews on Chewy.com and Amazon.com for Churu cat treats. Most of them were very positive.

Positive Reviews

I picked up a free sample at a fancy pet store and was skeptic b/c my kitties are super duper finicky. But my (16 year old) male litter mates went crazy the second they smelled the sample Chicken with Scallop. My one boy was going through a rough patch recently and was nauseous and dehydrated to the point I had to come up with an end of life plan with his Vet. He wouldn’t eat or drink but would lick these from my finger. He needed some food but mostly fluid and these were a perfect vehicle. I don’t know if he would have made it without these. – by CharmCityGirl reviewing INABA Churu Cat Treats, Grain-Free, Lickable, Squeezable On September 4, 2017

My cat is picky when it comes to her treats and this is one of the few she likes. – by BeaB reviewing Inaba Churu Rolls Chicken Recipe on Feb 12, 2021

Negative Reviews

it looked like a great hit, but hours later one of the cats had stomach issues and the other was less active and less comfy… the taste was alluring, but the result concerning 🙁 I didn’t put the facts together until this morning when one of the cats literally ran away in the backyard when I prepared the bowl with the treat … – by reviewing Mirela INABA Churu Cat Treats, Grain-Free, Lickable, Squeezable on April 28, 2019

My cat is obsessed with Churu so we wanted to give the Churu pops a try, however, these Churu Pops’ consistency are not for licking. Though my cat likes these, they are crumbly and required chewing in chunks. We will be getting more of the Original Churu treats though! – by CanonCat reviewing Inaba Churu Pops Moist & Chewy Tuna Recipe Lickable Cat Treats on May 19, 2022
