Wondering if Cat Person could be a good choice for you and your cat? We tried it to find out.
After a couple of weeks analyzing Cat Person, I’ve concluded that this brand offers high-quality food, but it doesn’t have much—beyond aesthetics—setting it apart from other products. Cat Person’s meal plan isn’t much different from auto-ship delivery services offered by retailers like Chewy and Amazon. And while the food itself is good, it’s not outstanding.
While I wasn’t blown away by everything about Cat Person, it does have a few interesting qualities that could make it a good choice for some customers.

About Cat Person
Over the last few weeks, I’ve gone deep on Cat Person cat food.
In addition to researching Cat Person, we ordered several recipes and tried out the food with my two cats, Wessie and Forest. We weren’t sponsored by Cat Person or given free products in exchange for this review.
Based on that research and experience, here are the facts about Cat Person. Keep reading to get the details, like where it’s made, how the subscription works, how much it costs, and what my cats thought of this cat food.
Let’s start with a little background.
In March of 2020, the cat world got a new direct-to-consumer brand—Cat Person.
Launched in the startup incubator at Harry’s Labs, Cat Person offers a variety of on-trend products for cats. In addition to cat food, Cat Person sells a wide variety of items for stylish cat people, including beds, bowls, toys, and more.
Sourcing and Manufacturing
Cat Person isn’t a cat food manufacturer. Instead, they rely on co-packers in the United States and Thailand to make their products.
Cat Person’s manufacturer in Thailand is primarily a human food supplier and, according to a customer service representative at Cat Person, cares deeply about sustainable ingredient sourcing, healthy oceans, safe and legal labor, and sustainable fishing. Whether it’s used in a wet or dry product, all of the seafood in their recipes is MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) certified.
Similarly, they claim that their US-based food ingredient provider—maintains pet food manufacturing standards equal to those for human food and purchases responsibly and ethically-sourced meat and fish. The food is made in a solar-powered facility.
Cat Person’s treats are also manufactured in the United States. This manufacturer—primarily a human food producer—has been in the industry for over 50 years and, according to the company, sources high-quality ingredients and uses advanced manufacturing processes to produce exceptional food and treats.
Has Cat Person Cat Food Been Recalled?
No. As of April 2020, Cat Person has not been involved in any recalls.
What Kinds of Cat Food Does Cat Person Offer?
Cat Person offers a total of 19 cat food recipes in both wet and dry varieties.
On the wet side, you have two texture styles—paté and shreds in broth—and each of those textures come in 8 flavors.
Those flavors are:
- Beef
- Chicken
- Duck
- Tuna
- Chicken & Duck
- Turkey & Chicken
- Salmon & Tuna
- Mackerel and Bream
If you’re interested in dry cat food, you can choose from 3 recipes:
- Chicken & Turkey
- Duck & Turkey
- Salmon & Tuna
All Cat Person foods are formulated to meet AAFCO’s nutrient guidelines for all life stages. While Cat Person doesn’t claim that their foods are human-grade, being manufactured in a human food processing facility—particularly one in the United States—suggests a level of quality that you wouldn’t find in your typical feed-grade pet food.
With no animal by-products on any of their ingredient lists, Cat Person foods appear to be made from highly-digestible, high-quality ingredients. Whether wet or dry, their recipes feature animal proteins as their primary ingredients. They’re made without controversial ingredients like corn, wheat, soy, carrageenan, and artificial colors.
Here’s What Happened When I Ordered Cat Person Food.
Cat Person offers two ways to buy cat food—just make an order of whichever recipes you want, when you want them, or via a cat food subscription service. I decided to experience their subscription service, which allows you to develop a meal plan and receive regular shipments of your preferred recipes.
It All Started on the Cat Person Website.
When you start creating your meal plan, Cat Person prompts you to enter information about your household, including how many cats you have, your cats’ names, which types of food you typically feed, and which—if any—ingredients your cats won’t or can’t eat.
Before you receive your fully-customized meal plan, Cat Person ships out a Sampler Box—for $25, the sampler box gives you two wet recipes and one dry formula, a guide to transitioning your cat’s diet, and a set of spoons and lids to help you store and serve your cat’s food.
I ordered a sampler box that included a box of chicken paté, shredded tuna in gravy, and a bag of Chicken & Turkey kibble. Sample packs are only available with a combination of dry and wet cat food, so even if your cat only eats one or the other, the sample pack will still contain both.
Once you’ve confirmed your sampler box, you’re also signed up for a meal plan, which includes a variety of foods chosen based on your household’s needs. Unless you pause, cancel, or update your subscription, Cat Person automatically sends out a shipment of these recipes every four weeks. This meal plan is fully-customizable, both when you’re ordering and at any time later in your subscription.
The Food Was Shipped Out the Next Day and Arrived Within the Week.
Cat Person ships your products for free. The food was shipped out the day after I placed the order and arrived about 5 days later.
Inside the box were two packs of wet cat food, containing 5 containers each, and a 2-lb bag of dry food. The box also contained a guide to transitioning my cats to Cat Person food, a kibble scoop, and a couple of lids and spoons for easy storage.
And to make things a little more fun, you can convert the cardboard box into a puzzle toy and ball for your cat. It was fun to assemble the puzzle and, while my cats haven’t yet played with the ball, they did seem curious, and, after an application of catnip spray, Wessie loved rubbing his face all over the box and popping his nose into the holes.
Then I Tried It Out With My Cats.
Over the next couple of weeks, I asked my cats to give Cat Person a try.
They ate all three recipes, with the Chicken & Turkey kibble and Tuna Shreds in Gravy coming in as favorites. Forest, in particular, seemed to dig the Chicken & Turkey kibble, while Wessie liked the tuna, but was less enthusiastic about the food in general.
We’ll go into a little more depth on my cats’ reactions when we review the recipes individually.
Managing My Account Was Easy.
Unlike some other meal delivery services that start assembling your next box without warning, Cat Person notified me three days before my next shipment was prepared. This gave me plenty of time to prepare and, if I wanted, to cancel my subscription.
While some other companies demand that you email them with your interest in canceling or have a complicated account management center, Cat Person makes cancellation hassle-free. It was easy to access my account and cancel the subscription with a click.
Note, however, that getting in touch with the company can be a challenge. You can only reach them by text or email. If you feel most comfortable working with a company that you can contact via phone call, Cat Person probably won’t be the best choice for you.
Cat Person Cat Food – Top 3 Recipes Reviewed

How Much Does Cat Person Cat Food Cost?
That depends on which foods you choose.
Cat Person’s wet foods cost $7.25 per sleeve or $1.45 per 2.75-ounce cup. If your cat’s average-sized and needs about 200 calories per day, he’ll need almost 3 containers of food daily, adding up to around $4.35 per day.
Considering that Cat Person cat food doesn’t offer anything much different from many other high-protein, meat-based wet foods—many of which you can find for a much lower price—this cost doesn’t quite seem justified.
Cat Person kibble is significantly cheaper at about $0.34 per ounce. If your cat is like most and eats about 2 ounces of food per day, that adds up to about $0.68 per day. This puts Cat Person kibble in the mid-premium part of the price spectrum.
Overall, Is Cat Person a Good Choice?
Especially if you opt for their wet recipes, Cat Person is a good choice for those who want a high-protein, meat-based food in a stylish package. With plenty of protein options and two textures to choose from, Cat Person has all the variety you need to satisfy finicky cats, multi-cat homes, and cats with allergies or sensitivities.
Having been manufactured in plants that double as human food processing facilities and including clearly-named meats as their main ingredients, Cat Person foods appear to be higher-quality than a lot of other products on the market.
But I’m not sure that any of this justifies this brand’s price.
Unlike some similar companies, Cat Person doesn’t give you custom-portioned meals or add anything really special to the food. The little spoons and lids were a great touch and I loved the kibble scoop, but the food itself doesn’t look like anything we haven’t seen before.
Where To Buy Cat Person Cat Food?
As a direct-to-consumer product, Cat Person cat food is only available on their site through the meal plan service or by choosing individual recipes. If you’re not happy with anything about the food or your experience within 30 days, Cat Person will refund your purchase.
Cat Person ships for free via FedEx Smartpost to addresses within the contiguous United States.
This is a great review as I just received my sample box today. Thank you so much for taking the time!
So glad you found it valuable, Crystal! Hope you enjoy your sample box. 🙂

I would love to just purchase the dry cat food only she loves it, it’s not available on Amazon
You can get it directly on cat persons website. If you go to the shopping section it lets you buy their dry food without a meal plan
Ordered some wet flavors and supplement broths to try before I saw your review. Very good review, btw – lots of relevant info, not just opinions. My two kitties scarfed everything down, so that’s a promising start. I typically buy Soulistic, Tiki Cat, Solid Gold, and Blue Buffalo. My kitties can only have wet food, especially my old girl who had bladder stones this past year and is hypercalcemic. She has been put on Royal Canin Urinary SO to prevent more stones from forming. I had hoped a food like Cat Person that seems to be mostly real meat/broth with minimal additives might be an alternative to the prescription diet, especially with flavors that look and taste similar to what the kitties were eating before. I’m not sure who to ask about this – my vet seems pretty keen on the prescription diet they sell. Do you have any reviews/info on specialized cat foods, esp for older kitties with UTIs and bladder stones?
Hi Heather, thanks for the comment. Glad your kitties are enjoying Cat Person food so far!
We don’t have anything for older kitties with those specific issues, but we do have a couple of articles that you might find helpful:
Hope this helps!
Best,
Mallory
Ariel Botanicals makes a remedy for cats with urinary issues called Easy Peasy — I am trying it with my cat instead of prescription food…FYI
Let us know how it goes, Francene!
Thanks for this review! Very informative. I usually thoroughly research before I try any foods for my cats. An ad popped up for this food on fb, and the marketing sucked me in. After ordering the sample kit, I freaked out a bit that I had no idea what I’d just bought my babies. My sweet boy has been very picky lately, gaining weight, and I think he has allergy issues, though I haven’t figure out to what yet. I was hoping maybe trying a different food would help him, which contributed to my eagerness to try this. Anyway, I feel better about my purchase after reading your review. Sounds like there is room for improvement, but it isn’t a bad option if they’re into it.
Thank you for the comment, Evie! I’m glad this article was able to put your mind at ease about buying Cat Person.
my cats love this food.
I keep getting orders that I didn’t order an charging my card alot an there is no number to call an stop this so I have all this duck an mackerel I did no not order very upset
Nicole, that’s not acceptable. I hope you’ve reached out to Cat Person’s email address about this issue: [email protected].
Thank you for sharing your experience and I hope you get things sorted out soon.
I bought 2 sleeves of this food as mune were tired of the food they are currently on, which is a very good brand. They scarfed it down. Whatever makes them hapoy, I’m happy. Just ordered more and hopefully they’ll stay on liking it. Yes, a bit pricey but my babies are worth it.
Very frustrated! received initial trial order. Placed an order and received. Meanwhile my cats have been put on a special Urinary diet that is not compatible with your choices. I have tried multiple times to contact you and cancel further orders, but have been unable do so. Another order was received today. The exact same order as was first placed. Your ad says you will contact before further orders are sent, etc. That did not happen. I have a box from you that is unopened. I want to return. Can you please arrange for a pickup!
Hi Melanie, sorry to hear that you’re going through this! To be clear, we are a blog and are not affiliated with Cat Person, so we are unable to help you to cancel your account or return the food. This is a question best directed to the Cat Person customer support team. I understand that this is frustrating, but you may just have to try contacting them again at [email protected] or send a text to (855) 918-2287. I hope that you can resolve this issue soon!
I hope you were able to reach cat person at the email address or phone number provided below. I have never had any trouble contacting them in the year I’ve been in their subscription program, and was even able to postpone shipping with no issue. I received an email right away and was pawsitively thrilled with the personalized treatment I received.
To be clear, I want to cancel my account
You can’t.
My cat didn’t like the food. I’m still trying but if not I will cancel my subscription.
Melanie, as Mallory just explained, she is not from Cat Person! She is an independent blogger who’s giving an unbiased review of their cat food products. Go directly to Cat Person’s website and text or email them to resolve your problems.
my cat loves the wet shreds. I love that she is enjoying food that is the best meat source food and all the water she needs. It is costly but my cat is a kitten Singapura and only needs a cup and a half a day most days. Also it is easy to store in the fridge and warm up in the microwave later anything she doesn’t eat. The subscription is convenient as my grocery delivery service is unpredictable as to when they have wet cat food in stock. Thank you Cat Person for this great product !
My is Phyllis Charles.I ordered catfood. I need to cancel my order. I health issue.

Nice review. Both my cats enjoy all the paté flavors from Cat Person. I like that the dry matter basis ratio for their foods is high in protein.
I would like to know more what you think about the tapioca starch in Cat Person Cat food. I’ve read a bit about how tapioca is a simple carbohydrate which can cause insulin spikes in overweight or diabetic cats. I’ve noticed one cat has gained some weight since starting Cat Person, and seems to strain at the litter box every once in a while. She isn’t diabetic or overweight, but she does tend to overeat (steal leftovers from her brother) if not carefully portion controlled.
Obviously portion size would be the first concern for her weight gain, so I started weighing out their servings using a digital scale.
For reference, they get fed 4 times per day, approximately 0.8-1.1 oz each cat per meal. What I’ve read is that ~ 4 oz is normal for 10 lb cats. So basically 1 container of paté is 1.5 meals for 2 cats.
They get wet food for all their meals and I change their water daily.
There’s just a part of me wondering if the tapioca could be causing constipation or weight gain for some cats. Just throwing that out there. I’ll take her to the vet if I continue to notice her straining at the litter box again. She’s due for her checkup in October, too.
Thanks for the review.
Hi Hannah, thanks for your comment. You have an interesting question. I’ve not seen any indication that tapioca starch would cause constipation, so I would consider other causes, like changes in her activity levels or weight. The Cat Person food may be lower in fiber than your cat’s previous diet, and this could contribute to some straining in the box. There are a lot of things that can affect your cat’s motility, but as far as I can tell, there is no documented evidence that tapioca starch is one of them. As you said, it is a highly-digestible carbohydrate source, and while this could cause problems in some cases, constipation is not one of those problems. Again, I would consider a wide range of potential causes and talk to your vet about this.
As for the question about it causing weight gain and insulin spikes, well…any carbohydrate source is going to raise blood sugar. But in this case, it’s present in a relatively small quantity, you’re still giving your cat a low-carbohydrate diet that shouldn’t cause a significant blood sugar spike. Additionally, I’ve not seen substantial evidence that a high-carbohydrate diet, including one with starches like tapioca starch, can directly cause weight gain. It’s all about calorie control, so as long as you’re keeping those portions under control, your cats should all be fine.
Thanks for this great review! I ordered this for my 2-year-old cat and he seems to like both the wet and the dry food! I couldn’t find this on their site, but do you have any suggested guidance on when to feed them both? For the wet food, do you recommend half of the cup in the morning and the other half at night with dry food throughout the day? Or less of the wet food per serving? Thanks!
Hi Baret, good question! There really aren’t any hard-and-fast rules when it comes to feeding your cat a mix of dry and wet food. You can feed any combination—just try to make sure that the wet and dry food combined add up to an appropriate caloric amount.
cat dosnt like wet food orderd two bagssss of dry plese canal sup
Hi Fran, you’ll have to contact Cat Person for support. Email [email protected] or text (855) 918-2287. Hope you can get this sorted out!
Hello Mallory,
I don’t see there’s RATIO OF CALCIUM TO PHOSPHOROUS information on Cat Person’s website, may I know if you have this information?
Or is it an important criterion for choosing cat food?
Thank you.
Hi Leslie, calcium-to-phosphorus ratio is something worth thinking about, especially if you’re feeding a kitten or senior cat. I’m going to contact Cat Person and get back to you with more information for you. Thanks!
Hi Leslie, calcium-to-phosphorus ratio is something worth thinking about, especially if you’re feeding a kitten or senior cat. I’m going to contact Cat Person and get back to you with more information. Thanks!
I’d like to update this a bit( 2021) Cat Person now has a shop. You can purchase their products without having to subscribe.
Hey Mallory, i just ordered the sample pack of this, then found your review. I thought it seemed pricey yet Smalls is really pricey as well. Is there a food that you really recommend trying for my 2 indoor cats that’s really affordable and healthy? This is about out of my price range. They like wet food, i haven’t tried fresh it seems costly. I buy 4health dry food and free feed them because they don’t eat alot of dry.
Thank you for these reviews!
Hi Tracy, you might appreciate the recommendations in our article on the best budget-friendly cat food. Most of the recommendations there are wet, and I think that your cats would enjoy them!
I personally recommend Tiki Cat, hope that helps
My cat eats a can of wet food (Friskies Pate with a little water) every evening and nibbles at his dry food (Meow mix or similar) from a gravity feeder — all day long. He is also missing his rear teeth and has difficulty chewing dry food and keeping it down. When trying to find a softer dry food, it appears that ALL dry foods are like a bag of stones. Are your dry foods all hard like rocks, or are they something that can be chewed without molars?
Hi William, good question. I found that the Cat Person kibble was relatively hard, but the pieces are also fairly small, so I think that your cat would likely swallow the pieces whole. Unfortunately, I don’t have any recommendations for softer kibble that would work with a gravity feeder. The closest equivalent would be freeze-dried raw food rehydrated with a little bit of water, but of course, that’s an entirely different ballgame. Perhaps you could get some more insights from the All About Cats community here.
I order my first shipment of the combination of dry and wet. My cat did enjoy both. Downfall..had him on this for exactly two weeks and now he’s been in the hospital 5 days. He had Total blockage in his urinary track and crystals . I’m at $2500. Now trying to get him healthy. Your product contains too much minerals. My cat is almost 2 and never had any health issues. Now he will be on medication and strick diet the rest of his life. Please check with your veterinarian before you change your cats diet.
Hi Shirley, thank you for sharing your experience—sounds very scary. I would recommend also sharing your experience directly with Cat Person at [email protected] or (855) 918-2287. Hope your cat gets better soon.
Please cancel mu subscription. Making my cats sick. CANCEL.
Juli MCSorley
Julie, you should contact Cat Person directly by email at [email protected] or text (855) 918-2287. You may also want to report this to the FDA. https://www.fda.gov/animal-veterinary/report-problem/how-report-pet-food-complaint I hope that your cats feel better soon.
Cancel my orders for cat person canned food. My cat would not eat it. He smelled it and turned around and looked at me as it to say you think I will eat this. I gave it to my daughter for your cat which is a young cat he would not even eat either and he is a young cat. Gotcho loved the dry food but I will not pay the price of that either. So CANCEL all orders for ever.
Hi Linda, sounds frustrating. I’d recommend contacting the Cat Person support team directly by emailing [email protected] or texting (855) 918-2287. Wishing you all the best!
My cat is not showing any more interest in this food than in the other brand I gavehim
Please cancel my subscription
Thank you
Hi Robert, you should be able to cancel your subscription by contacting Cat Person here: [email protected] or by texting (855) 918-2287.
One comment about the price per day which I think it’s easy to miss.
Cat person’s recipes actually vary wildly in calories per container. I get a subscription with a large variety of flavors and I pair the flavors based on calories, going for a total of 180-190cal a day with two containers. This usually mean one shred and one pate. And, this is the annoying part, since they’re so different I usually mix them and then serve the mix throughout the day (my cat is a 20lb fat cat that would eat every 10min of he could, if you have good strategies there pls share!). So I particularly appreciate the lids.
Bottom line, the calories vary a lot so you can definitely find a combination of flavors that gives you the daily calories you need for a variety of cats in 2 containers a day, but you kinda have to look up and note down the calories info from their website, they don’t make it very easy to count up calories when ordering.
Thanks for all your work, your videos and blog are always a very useful source of information.
Hi Marianna, this is a great observation. Thank you for sharing.
Just wanna say to everybody who wrote having difficulty with this company in terms of canceling subscriptions. I have found the same problem after the trial order and my cats would not eat any of it I went online and cancel my order and now today I got billed $239 with a whole meal plan that I didn’t even request now I’m trying to get my money back so I just think Mallory if you can rewrite this review to let people know to be careful because you can never speak to anybody it’s only either texting or emails and it’s very difficult to get this resolved.
I know that you were just writing a review that you were not the company so it’s just a heads up for consumers to be where when they order from this company and may be really hard to get out of it
Hi Francine, thank you for letting us—and any potential customers—know about this issue. I’ve updated the article to mention that they are not reachable by phone call, which should help to give other customers some clarity. – Mallory
Good review. Thanks for letting me know something I didn’t know, about the ingredients. My cat also likes their food. My problem is getting it to my house. Every month I end up running out of food because it didn’t ship when it said it was going to ship. Last month it was two weeks late. It’s just not worth messing with my cat’s belly. She is the main focus, after all. She’s had so many different kinds of food just due to their messed up shipping. And her belly is not happy with sudden change. It’s too bad! I think I’m gonna have to cancel.
I still don’t understand why it would take so long for a box to get here inside the United States in the timeframe it’s supposed to. ♀️ If this company is going to survive, they need to change their shipping policies.
I saw gret reviews about this company so I then place a $42.00 order. I then found this information. I immediatly sent a text to cancel my order and an email to cancel my order. In both cases I recieved a generated response that stated they will get back to you in 24 to 48 hours. I contacted paypal which is useless. This morning I contacted my credit card company used through paypal. They informed me that if the order is sent a dispute will then be started. I have made copies of the emails that I sent and the companies response to it. I also called this company and the answering message is that they don’t do business over the phone. I’m a warrior with credit card disputes. I wouldn’t do business with this company because of the feedback that I have seen posted here. If you have used a debit card to place an order go to your back and change your bank account.
Thanks for sharing your experience, Dora.
I cannot get thru to you people that I started returning your boxes several months ago. STOP my subscription and return my money now. I hate your customer service. There is none and you make it impossible to communicate with you
Julia Samson.
Hi Julia, sorry that you’re going through this. Comments on this post aren’t sent to Cat Person staff. Have you already emailed or texted them? I would encourage you to contact them directly at the following email address: [email protected]. You can also text them at this number: (855) 918-2287. Hope you’re able to resolve this problem soon. – Mallory
Good review. My 2 kittens absolutely love it.
Sorry about all of the crazies who apparently don’t know how to use Cat Person’s website to modify their subscription though. For example, the person who was having issues with automatic shipment dates might not even realize she can switch the day the next box ships right on your subscription page – all you have to do is click the calendar!
Thank you for the good quality review! Just want to share something I got from their rep when I was researching on catperson wet food last year August.
Too bad I cannot upload the graph here, but I have their phosphorus % range on dry matter basis.
Basically, their phosphorus is too high with cats that has kidney disease.
Their lowest phosphorus option is Chicken shreds in Broth has 0.80-0.92.
Thank you so much for doing your homework and sharing this! It’s always good to get the details on phosphorus content. – Mallory
A friend purchased the duck, chicken & turkey wet food. Her cat would not touch it, so she gave it to me to see if my cat would eat it. No luck. She just walked away. I resorted to feeding it to a few ferals and even they wouldn’t touch it. Perhaps more research needs to go into what it appealing to cats.
Thanks for sharing your experience, Joy.
i have tried over and over to cancel this my cat will not eat it do not send me any more of this cat food
Hi Julie, I’m sorry you’ve had that experience with Cat Person. Unfortunately, these types of problems are common among subscription services. Have you emailed them? To my knowledge, this is the best way to contact customer support and solve problems. Here’s the Cat Person email address: [email protected]
I hope you’re able to find a solution soon.
I just found this brand today and ordered some ala cart to try. Since this review it looks like they have changed their options, you can get a subscription for just wet food OR wet and dry food. I am excited to try because I am having a hard time with availability in my area with the brands my pet likes. They are having a hard time keeping them in the shelves/stocked.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention! This review is in need of an update, then. Cheers.
My cat Blue (Siberian) is extremely fussy. He gets tired of so many foods as I throw out more than he eats. Your Cat Person food is the only one I have found so far that he consistently loves. He loves vitamins and hard food the best. Thank you.
Please cancel my account as of 1/13/2022….Thank You
Hi Tami, thank you for commenting. I’m afraid that, as a blog, we can’t do anything to help you get your subscription canceled. The most I can do is suggest reaching out to Cat Person here: [email protected] or by texting (855) 918-2287.
My cat loves the cat person shreds and kibble, and I feel good about feeding it to him. Thanks for the detailed reviews Mallory
Glad to hear that it’s working out for both of you, Oliver!
Thanks for this detailed review! Which other lower-priced cat foods would you recommend as cheaper equivalents to Cat Persons shreds with gravy recipes?
Lee, there are so many options! You might appreciate our article on the best affordable cat food, which has a number of recommendations.
My cat enjoys all the foods and I like the healthy ingredients. My issue is the time it takes to process the order and free shipping offered is with USPS which is very slow. When I asked of other shipping options I was told I could ship UPS but would have to pay additional charges. I would like to see more timely processing.
Thanks for sharing your experience, Joyce. Much appreciated.
I have recently found your blog in the last couple months and tried multiple things from the list. I find myself to be someone who over researches and changes my mind a lot, we have tried nulo, authority, weruva, open farm, and we recently just ordered cat person. (They seem to like them all I just can’t make up my mind) help ♀️
We have two cats around 10 months old. We do leave a bowl of dry kibble out the purple bag from Costco.
My main concern is feeding them enough. How much wet food would you recommend feeding them when I’m not too positive how much each kitten is eating out of the bowl of dry kibble?
Kyli, it’s very hard to determine how much wet food the kittens should have if they’re already free-feeding dry food. I would use this calculator to determine how much they need each day, then start controlling their portions a bit more to make sure they’re getting just the right amount.
Looking at some of the comments left here, people are not understanding your site and apparently think you ARE Cat Person lol.
I’ve been a subscriber to Cat Person since last year. No worries, I know how to use the website to cancel a shipment and change an order, so all good there!
When I first got this food, I was pleasantly surprised by the look and smell. Also nice: opening the container. Easy-peasy!
One big thing that I and my husband have both noticed: Not as many poops and they’re not stinky. This is a big deal!
Yes it’s on the pricier side, but we want both of our cats to be healthy and active for a long time, so I’ll be sticking with this product unless I see you have a product with a 10/10 score!
Thanks for your thoroughness!
It’s true! It happens more frequently than you might expect. At any rate, thanks for sharing your experience with Cat Person, Ina.
I cancelled my subscription because my cats don;t like the food on 5/12/22,I got an email from you saying it was cancelled & then I got another shipment which I want to return,Please advise,Thanks
Hi Mary, All About Cats does not sell Cat Person products, so you’ll need to talk directly with the company instead. You can contact them at [email protected]. Thank you for commenting!
I signed up for Cat Person and absolutely LOVE IT!! It is affordable, my cat’s LOVE IT, and most of all it’s so EASY! No more trips to store for cat food and it’s great quality with so much variety. I had a flavor the cats didn’t eat and the company was SUPER responsive, and got it worked out immediately. If your cat likes variety, you’ve got it covered. If not, it’s easy to find one they love and stay with what works. The convenience alone almost makes it worth it. You can customize as you go and get it right at your door. My cats love to play in the boxes before they go to recycling so it’s a win-win.
I saw a comment about the free shipping being too slow, however if you sign up for a subscription this really is never an issue and I didn’t notice the shipping meeting slow at all for ANY shipment we’ve received.
As far as other foods being better for the money, when add in convenience with time and effort saved, I really think this makes it a very affordable option.
I suggest you try it. They have trial set and free returns within 30 days so you really have nothing to lose, (except yet another drive to the pet store).
I adopted my little girl when she was 5 years old from a shelter and started feeding her “regular” cat kibble and she got sick as in VERY SICK. Turns out she has a very sensitive stomach. I WANTED to give her some “soft” food that wouldn’t kill her (being serious here) so I tried Cat Person food. Long story short: She LOVES their dry kibble but I stopped the wet food because she wasn’t on fire for it so why waste money. I have been on their meal plan now and their prices recently went up (but isn’t everything?) I always have 2 bags of her food on reserve and always 1 on auto delivery and that includes FREE delivery and even shipping is getting stupid expensive. I feel I am getting quality food delivered straight to my door which makes my life easier. (as I am disabled) This food IS expensive when compared to grocery store food but she is now over 11 years old and in GREAT health so for us? It is CAT PERSON! Loved this article and all your hard work and thank you.
Thanks GWA! We always appreciate hearing from our readers regarding their experience with the brands we review. I’m glad to hear Cat Person is working so well for you and your kitty!
Cat Person is a newer food company, but you can tell it is run by passionate cat lovers. They have done their research on the foods cat get the most benefits from, and they offer a lot of options. It has kept my 14 year old cat happy and healthy. She may be 7.5lbs but never misses a meal! The box that the food is delivered in turns into a fun cat play box which both my cats enjoy and one has started hording toys in it. I will say as shipping can be unreliable at times, for over a year it has consistently been 4-6 days (NOT business days) from the order date to delivery day, which isn’t too bad once you get the timing down on your cats feeding schedule. They also have an option to ship via UPS. Their customer service is responsive and actually tries to help resolve issues. A company run by real cat lovers here in the US. Be patient and show a little love.
Is all your food whether it be wet or dry product made in the USA?
Because if it is manufactured in China I am not interested
The wet food is made in Thailand, and the dry food is made in the USA.
This is a great idea except that the wet food comes in plastic tubs that will end up in landfills and oceans. It’s time for new and eco-friendly packaging!
This article was so helpful! My cat has a really sensitive stomach and a tuna allergy, but she’s also incredibly picky about wet food so it’s been a struggle to satisfy her palate and get her all the nutrition she needs. After sampling tons of different wet food brands I’ve finally been able to narrow down what she will and won’t eat, and Cat Person seems like it checked off all the boxes of stuff she likes and being a subscription service just makes my life easier. After reading this article I decided to order a sample box of their wet food, it seems that all the pros you mentioned fit into the needs I have and since my cat is pretty small and eats mostly dry food, the main con of cost isn’t as important to me since I’ll only be feeding her one small can a day as a diet booster, not a main source of nutrition. I’m excited to get it in and see how she likes it, but either way this blog post was super helpful!
Have you considered maybe separating out things like “customer satisfaction” and “price” from the ratings related to food quality, species appropriateness, etc? Things like that are far more subjective, I feel, than if the food is good quality or not. (Being as we have actual scientific knowledge of the sort of diet cats require.) As it is, because of those ratings, you give Sheba a 1-point higher rating than Cat Person (43/60 vs 42/60), and I can tell you with certainty that Cat Person is a far superior food in terms of quality. I watched our cats go from having dull, dandruff-y coats on Sheba to shiny and soft on Cat Person. (Like, to the point where anyone who pets them comments on how soft they are.) They seem to have more energy, are far less likely to throw up, etc. Literally every health marker has improved once we switched. I just think it would be a shame for someone to only look at the number ratings and conclude Sheba was a better or even comparable quality food, when it really, objectively isn’t; it’s mainly just cheaper.
The subjective nature of those other ratings does lead me to question things like: how is the recall history score determined? Sometimes if they have no recall history, they get 10/10, but sometimes only 9? What’s the differentiating factor there? Price is weird too. For example, Smalls gets a 7/10 in their review, but they are pretty much dead even, cost-wise, with Cat Person, which gets a 4. (I tried both; Smalls was not at all cheaper. It was also far more inflexible as far as subscriptions go.) As far as customer experience goes, their site is also far more aggravating, as you have to click through to their FAQ to even find the food information, and you can’t even get pricing information until you go through the quiz and sign up for their sampler box. Having to pay $32 to try it before you can even determine what it will actually cost long-term is really not great. If I were rating customer experience for them, it’d get a 2/10 at best. Now obviously, this is all my opinion, but that’s kind of the core of my point: the website being annoying (and, quite frankly, mildly predatory, given the way they handle pricing and subscriptions) doesn’t have anything to do with the food’s quality, and it’s not something that an objective rating can really be made about. Whether or not the food is made from good ingredients and is a good diet for cats, on the other hand, absolutely is, and is far more important.
These are great questions, Sara. We’re currently in the process of updating our rating system so we can provide specific details to our readers about how our ratings are determined. Stay tuned!
