About Schesir

According to Schesir, the company was started in 1999 with tinned food made from 100 percent natural ingredients. They were one of the first brands to use all-natural ingredients. They began exporting pet food in 2003. They launched their first dry foods in 2007. In 2018, the company launched a line of certified organic food.

In 2020, Schesir introduced the Natural Selection line, with natural ingredients specifically selected for the well-being of pets. Later that year, they acquired the factory where the food was made so they could produce the food themselves.

In 2021 the company launched Salads Pokè, a multi-flavor dish; and Petit Délice, a mousse.

Schesir was owned by Agras Delic S.P.A., which has offices in Milan and Genoa Italy. Schesir is the company’s top brand. Their other brands include ADOC and Stuzzy. Agras distributes products to Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, Eastern Europe, North America, the Asian Pacific, and Western Europe.

In 2022 Agras (and Schesir) merged with Whitebridge Pet Brands. Whitebridge is the U.S.-based maker of Tiki Pets cat and dog foods. Both companies are now fully owned by NXMH, a Belgium-based investment firm. The two companies now do business as Whitebridge Pet Brands.

Combined, the companies sell products in fifty countries and have four production plants.

Per Schesir, the company is committed to animal welfare. They reject the use of invasive tests and are a cruelty-free brand.

Sustainability is also important to the company. They rely on ocean-friendly fishing and recyclable packaging and reforestation.

Schesir also carries out checks on the origins of their raw materials and the treatments they receive.

The company is also committed to the environment and the living beings on the planet. It supports national and international associations with charitable contributions.

Sourcing and Manufacturing

Schesir wet food is made with tuna or chicken, using human-grade ingredients. It includes no colorings or preservatives. It is steam-cooked and hand-processed.

According to Schesir, the company selects the best suppliers, all of whom must comply with strict quality standards. During all stages of production, they check as many as nine different parameters to ensure that the best possible product is produced.

Checks continue after the production process by sampling the packages and containers on the shelf to verify the appearance, color, and consistency of the product against the standard of products leaving the factory.

In 2020, Schesir acquired Ceres Produzione, a company in Neive in the Italian Piedmont region. The facility manufactures and packages dry pet foods. This has allowed Schesir to oversee the entire supply chain, from production to marketing. They can monitor and guarantee the quality of their products.

#1 Schesir Dry Food For Adult Cats Ham

Schesir’s Original line of dry food for cats is made in Italy. These foods are complete and balanced and each is formulated with a single animal protein source. They are available for kittens, adult cats, sterilized cats, and in a hairball formula. We found the formula for mature cats missing on the website.

As you would expect, most of these foods are available in tuna and chicken recipes. We liked the fact that the adult cat and sterilized cat foods were also available with single animal proteins that are less common such as ham and lamb. Duck is also available in some formulas. If your cat gets tired of eating the same chicken or tuna flavors found in most cat foods, he might enjoy these proteins.

Single protein foods are also helpful for cats that have allergies or food sensitivities.

In particular, we looked at the maintenance formula for adult cats with ham as the single animal protein. Pork/ham makes up 26 percent of this formula, followed by rice and barley. The recipe features 100 percent natural ingredients, a special blend of herb extracts that act as antioxidants, and added vitamins and minerals. Schesir uses no added preservatives or colors.

The nutritional formulation of every product in the line is approved by the Department of Veterinary Medical Sciences at the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna.

Overall, Schesir Dry food for adult cats with a single protein source – Adult with Ham looks like a very good food, especially if you like dry foods. Schesir encourages the feeding of a mixed diet of dry and wet foods.

#3 Schesir Wet Cat Food With Fish – Tuna With Yellowtail

This Blue Deluxe formula is a supplementary food. It is not suitable for a cat’s entire diet.

Schesir uses real tuna in their foods that are steam-cooked and prepared by hand. The tuna in their recipes comes solely from sustainable fisheries; the species of tuna used in each batch is clearly indicated and traced on the pack.

The tuna used in the Blue Deluxe line of foods comes straight from the ocean. It is coupled with other seafood. The recipes rely on 100 percent natural, human-grade ingredients (not intended for human consumption). Schesir uses no added preservatives or colors.

The tuna with yellowtail recipes comes in a gelatin form. The tuna used in this food are (A) Euthynnus affinis (B) Katsuwonus pelamis. The yellowtail used in this recipe is also caught in open water.

What Do Customers Think of Schesir Cat Food?

Schesir is widely sold around the world so there are lots of online reviews.

Positive Reviews

“This wet food, all flavors, is the only food all 10 of my cats love! Even the fussiest eater will wolf it down!, I give it to pregnant and lactating cats once a day as a treat, the rest of them have it as a treat twice a week. What a pity it is not a ‘complete’ food! I have recommended it to friends who have poorly cats, to help get them eating again.” – by Jenny Hemming reviewing Schesir in Jelly 6 x 85g on June 7, 2014

“The dry food from Shesiris great, just like the wet food. It is very good in composition and our cat eats it scary. She already had problems with hair loss with other dry food, which is not an issue with this one. I really can therefore highly recommend it.” – by Gruscha J. reviewing Schesir Cat Adult Maintenance Lamb on November 27, 2020

Negative Reviews

“My fussy bengal girl loves tuna flavour cat food, but this one didn’t tickle her fancy, she ate a little of it. My other two cats turned their noses up at it. It’s quite expensive too. So, not so great overall.” – by Nicole Paton reviewing Schesir in Jelly 6 x 85g on March 4, 2008

“I haven’t tasted it 😅🤣 but I have two cats that are different from each other in their tastes and eating habits. Neither she nor he wanted to eat them ☹️ too bad” – by Daniliaca reviewing Schesir Cat Adult Maintenance Lamb on December 31, 2022

How Much Does Schesir Cat Food Cost?

As you might expect with cat foods that use 100 percent natural ingredients, including some organic product lines, Schesir tends to cost more than many brands.

On Zooplus.com we found many of the 6-packs of Schesir’s 85-gram pouches and cans selling for around €7. Some were a little higher. Some were a lot higher. That included the supplementary recipes.

You can find 24-container saver packs (85 grams per container) for €32 with some Schesir recipes on Zooplus. We found 1.4 kg bags of Schesir Natural Selection dry food for about €16 on Zooplus. The 4.5 kg bags are around €40.

Overall, Is Schesir Cat Food a Good Choice?

We do think that Schesir cat foods – both wet and dry – appear to be a good choice for cat lovers. The ingredients seem to be of good quality. There is a little fudging here and there, such as the use of vaguely-labeled “meat” and “meat derivatives” in the Bio recipes.

How Do You Order Schesir Cat Food?

Schesir is sold in over 50 countries today. If it’s not sold in a pet retail store near you, it’s available online from Zooplus.com, Vivapets.com, Miscota.com, Canadianconnection.ca, Petfoodmalta.com, Lazada.sg, and through other online retailers.

Not Able To Find Schesir?

If you are interested in Schesir, you might also be interested in Open Farm. Schesir offers more tuna and fish options than Open Farm. If your cat really loves tuna, you might compare Schesir to Tiki Cat, another brand in the Whitebridge family. Tiki Cat has a solid reputation for producing food from human-grade ingredients and featuring lots of sustainably-sourced fish.

Now Schesir was bought from the same group of Tiki Tak Cat food, they start to sell the “after dark” recipes here in Italy, but with the Schesir name (plus the Tiki Tak logo), they are “merged into 1 brand”, i think they will mantain the name Schesir at least in Italy and in the EU market, because it is a wide respected and well know brand.
