About Anifit

Anifit pet foods is owned by Provital GmbH and is based in Taufkirchen, Germany. Provital GmbH also has headquarters in Vienna, Austria. Provital specializes in the development of natural active ingredients and botanic extracts. Along with pet food, Provital is involved in the cosmetics industry.

The Anifit brand has a wide range of wet foods, BARF diets, freeze-dried meals, and snacks.

Anifit pet foods and snacks are free of additives and are made from human grade ingredients. Anifit does not do any animal testing.

The brand has a global market. Among customers (more than 1100 surveyed), 98.5 percent say they would recommend the food.

Sourcing and Manufacturing

Part of Anifit’s web site with detailed information is not available in English. From what we can tell, the company uses 100 percent human grade meat ingredients. They strictly ban animal meals, vegetable flours, preservatives, colorants, flavor enhancers, added flavors, sugar and any other harmful chemical substances. They use no bulking agents and no added fat; no meat and bone meal; no soya; no maize. They only use gluten-free ingredients.

Along with premium quality ingredients, the brand has strict quality controls. Anifit is certified under IFS (International Food Standard) – Bavaria; ISO 22000 (Management of food safety) – Sweden; and ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and organic regulations. Food is inspected by auditors of TÜV and BCS ÖKÖ Garantie GmbH (DE-ÖKO-001).

Anifit meals contain a high percentage of fresh meat (90-95 percent), supplemented with vegetables and other natural ingredients. They only use raw ingredients. The meat is fit for human consumption.

Meals are gently prepared using the cold filling method. They are preserved only by gentle heat treatment. The products are made in Sweden, a country where animal welfare is a high priority and animal disease is rare. We are not able to ascertain where all of the ingredients are obtained but it sounds like the meats are raised in Sweden.

Meals are complete diets. Some reviewers have rated Anifit as the best dog food in Europe though we didn’t find cat food reviews.

Has Anifit Cat Food Been Recalled?

#1 Anifit Fisch à la Mode wet cat food Review

If your cat really loves meat and fish protein, you probably won’t find a better brand than Anifit. Anifit Fisch à la Mode wet cat food, for example, is made up of 99 percent meat and fish. Yet it’s a complete and balanced meal for cats.

Anifit Fisch à la Mode is one of the brand’s most popular cat foods. This particular recipe features chicken muscle meat, reindeer muscle meat, salmon, whiting (fish), beef lung, and beef liver. The muscle meat includes skeletal muscle as well as heart and stomach muscles. Less than 1 percent of the food is made up of tomato powder, rose hip, calcium, and salt.

Anifit foods are completely free of preservatives, colorants, added flavors, and sugars. They use only gluten-free ingredients. All of their meats are human-grade.

Anifit states that this food is appropriate for cats of all ages though they specifically mention adult and senior cats. (It’s also sold for dogs and puppies.)

Anifit does not provide calorie information for this food. They do have feeding recommendations:

Daily requirements based on the normal body weight of the fully-grown cat:

  • Cat with 2-3.5 kg: around 100-200 g
  • Cat with 3.5-7 kg: around 200-500 g
  • Cat with 7-14 kg: around 500-800 g

There is a food calculator on the site for dogs but we didn’t find anything similar for cats. We estimate that the food has 74 kcal per 100 grams but this is only an estimate.

We think that Anifit Fisch à la Mode wet cat food looks like a very good food for cats with superior ingredients.

#2 Anifit Easy BARF Lamb Hearts (Lammherz) lamb for raw feeding Review

Anyone who has tried raw feeding knows that there are some drawbacks. It can be messy. It also takes time to prepare the food. It’s a real help when you can find companies that can supply freeze-dried food to cut down on the preparation.

Anifit Easy BARF Lamb Hearts for raw feeding is a supplemental product. It has freeze-dried raw meat chunks of lamb hearts that you can use in the BARF meals you make for your cat. The lamb chunks are pure meat and easy to prepare with some warm water.

This BARF food is free of additives. According to Anifit, the freeze-drying retains the nutrients and the aroma of the original food.

Freeze-dried foods have a long shelf life which also makes them easy to keep on hand and feed. Per Anifit, the dried weight of the food corresponds to approximately one-quarter of the weight before freeze-drying.

Anifit has a wide range of BARF meats available.

We think that Anifit Easy BARF Lamb Hearts (Lammherz) lamb for raw feeding is a good quality freeze-dried food to use as part of meals for your cat. You will need to add other ingredients to make the meal complete and balanced.

#3 Anifit Shrimps Freeze-dried fish Review

Not every cat likes seafood but many do. If your cat is a fan of shrimp, these freeze-dried treats from Anifit will be a hit!

Anifit specializes in high protein meals and treats. Their freeze-drying technology, in particular, allows the food to retain the taste, aroma, and nutrients to be optimally preserved. They use a gentle process that keeps the taste in the food so your cat will love it. It also ensures that the food and snacks have a long shelf-life.

These freeze-dried shrimp are protein-rich treats which are good for your cat. Along with being high in protein, they are free of additives, gluten-free, and they have not been irradiated or treated with chlorine. They are 100 percent natural.

This is a supplemental food. It is not a complete meal. It’s intended to be fed as a treat. The weight before freezing is approximately 150 grams. The freeze-dried package sold is 15 grams. We think Anifit Shrimps Freeze-dried fish would be a very good snack for cats.

What Do Customers Think of Anifit Cat Food?

The only place we could find any customer reviews for Anifit was on the brand web site. That’s not ideal since it’s possible the company could delete negative comments. Most of the comments are also in German. Here are some of the comments we found.

Positive Reviews

Negative Reviews

We didn’t find any negative reviews on the Anifit web site. We couldn’t find other Anifit reviews online.

How Much Does Anifit Cat Food Cost?

Anifit is expensive. They use animal proteins that are fit for human consumption and all of their foods have more than 95 percent meat and fish protein. These are the most expensive ingredients in any pet foods. Some of their foods are freeze-dried so the packaging can appear small or lightweight but that’s because most of the moisture has been removed. When the food is rehydrated, it will provide plenty of food for your cat.

On the Anifit web site, most of the wet foods are sold in packages of six. A pack of six 200-gram tins costs €16.62; six 400-gram tins costs €21.66; and six 810-gram tins costs €28.02. It is cost effective to buy more if possible.

There is more of a range in price for the BARF foods. The Easy BARF Lamb Hearts (one package, 350 grams) costs €25.40. Other freeze-dried BARF supplemental foods come in slightly different sizes and prices.

Most of the treats and snacks range between 25-50 grams for one package. One package of the freeze-dried shrimp treats (15 grams) costs €5.70.

Overall, Is Anifit Cat Food a Good Choice?

We are happy to recommend Anifit’s wet foods, supplemental BARF foods, and treats. The ingredients appear to be first rate. Anifit even provides a nutritionist to speak to you, if you wish, when you order your cat’s food to make sure you are getting exactly the food you need for your cat.

Anifit invites you to arrange a free trial meal for your cat (or dog) to see if your pet likes the food. They will call you personally to get your cat’s details and set it up.

We do wish we had been able to find a wider variety of customer reviews, including any negative reviews.

If you like Anifit, other cat foods that might interest you include: Smalls and Dr. Elsey’s.

How Do You Order Anifit Cat Food?

You can purchase Anifit directly from the company web site. The company offers a home delivery service.

We found Anifit for sale at a few European pet food retailers but we didn’t find the food to be widely available at sites such as Amazon.

I was very excited to find this brand, by far better than anything I have been able to find in Europe. Ordered a food change package and was looking forward to get started. However..

By now, I am not sure I would trust this brand. I admittedly have not received the food yet, but they definitely don’t live up to their promises on delivery. There is also no way to get in touch with them. I have tried several email addresses and gotten no answer.

    – At best, the food content is what they say and they “just” have super unstable deliveries + no customer service. Which won’t work for me.
    – At worst, the food content is just as over promised as their delivery service and their degree of care for quality, is just as low as their care for customers (non existing).

So, if it ever arrives, I don’t actually think I will be using it.

Hi Mallory. Thank you for your reply. I have contacted Anifit Germany and they have confirmed that it is not available in Ireland. I wanted Anifit because one of my cats has a food allergy. In the meantime I have found another food from Sweden and my cat likes it and tolerates it too. I still have to see if it fits if she gets it for a longer period of time. It’s called Bozita and I ordered it from zooplus.ie.
